Advice from the mother of a Tsar 

Watching Britain’s senior dignitaries (including Theresa May, our Prime Minister) line up to apologise for Donald Trump’s recent atrocities and provocations brings to mind this quote from Alexander I of Russia’s mother, when advising him against meeting Napoleon at Erfur: 

“…do not go voluntarily to bow your forehead adorned with the most beautiful diadem before the idol of fortune, and idol accursed of present and future humanity; step back from the edge of the precipice”
